Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness. Your attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around you is temporarily blocked out or ignored. In this naturally occurring state, you may focus your attention -- with the help of a trained therapist -- on specific thoughts or tasks.

Hypnotherapy can be used in two ways, as suggestion therapy or for patient analysis.
Suggestion therapy: The hypnotic state makes the person better able to respond to suggestions. Therefore, hypnotherapy can help some people change certain behaviors, such as stopping smoking or nail biting. It can also help people change perceptions and sensations, and is particularly useful in treating pain.
Analysis: This approach uses the relaxed hypnotic state to explore a possible psychological root cause of a disorder or symptom, such as a traumatic past event that a person has hidden in his or her unconscious memory.
Hypnotherapy is not a dangerous procedure. You're not brainwashed or mind-controlled! A therapist cannot make a person do something embarrassing or that the person doesn't want to do. You are in full control of your environment at all times and can end the session simply by opening your eyes.
Please note that Di Goddard Hypnotherapy does not guarantee the effectiveness of treatment in individual cases. It is important that you understand that hypnotherapy is not a 'magic pill'. Hypnotherapy requires that the client attending will be committed to change, and be prepared to make the effort to make that change a reality.
There is, of course, a considerable variation in the difficulty of the various issues and there is no general rule which makes it possible to say how much improvement can be achieved and in how much time.
Some problems can sometimes be overcome in one or two sessions - On average I see clients for between four and six sessions. I am committed to helping you as swiftly and effectively as possible and will check in with you at the end of each session to determine what you want to have happen next, with no pressure.
I will give you a fair assessment of how much improvement you can expect and how many sessions may be needed by the end of the first consultation, but if the issue is more complex then we will jointly review progress from time to time. I look forward to working with you.
