How to de-stress on your daily commute


As lockdown eases and businesses begin to re-open, some of you may be going back to work after a month of working from home. Travelling during peak times can already be a relatively stressful task and using public transport during a global pandemic is bound to increase anxiety levels. So, what can you do to make your commute more enjoyable and less stressful? Here are some ideas...


Avoid scrolling on your phone

Many of us use our commute as a time to catch up on our social media accounts, however, avoiding this kind of stimulation in the mornings will have a positive effect on your day! Mindless scrolling may seem like a good idea, but you could use this time to prepare yourself for the day ahead, or wind down on your commute home.


Instead of scrolling instagram, perhaps find a podcast or music that makes you feel calm. There are plenty of playlists on Spotify designed for mindfulness. Listen to the music and let it take your imagination on a journey.


Acknowledge your surroundings

Does your commute have a nice view? Taking in your natural surroundings will boost your mental health. Maybe you can get off the bus a few stops early and take the scenic route to work. Finding joy and beauty in nature can be really grounding and good for your wellbeing. Challenge yourself to find beauty and take photos along the way...

Practise breathing exercises

A long busy commute can seem overwhelming, but you should optimise this as the perfect opportunity to check in with yourself. How are you feeling today? What does your body and mind need? Remind yourself of the breathing exercises from our sessions, bringing calm to the start of your day.
